Hello Games ambitious space odyssey has taken them 5 years to create. Harnessing the power of mathematic algothrims to procedurally generate 18 quintillion planets (that’s 18,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 by the way!). Needless to say this is not a small game. It’s so big in fact that that number is just far too large to comprehend. But once you first see the galaxy map, the overwhelming vastness of it all soon becomes very clear. On screen there are literally quintillions of stars shimmering and glowing, each one signifying a planetary system for you to explore.
With the promise of a seemingly infinite universe laid out before you, you are pretty much left with the daunting task of figuring it out at your own pace and in however way you choose. Thankfully there are some subtle yet very hand tutorials that help get you started on the games many systems. Everything from environment scanning, wildlife documentation, mining valuable resources, trading said resources with the locals, alien technology to uncover and space pirates to avoid. There is plenty to keep you occupied in you own private universe.
Here is just a wee look at some of the things we’ve been getting up too in our first few hours with No Man’s Sky.
